WWF Oasis of Bolgheri and Giardino Sospeso

WWF Oasis of Bolgheri and Giardino Sospeso

The WWF Oasis of Bolgheri has been, together with that of Lake Burano, the first protected oasis of WWF in Italy. Originally, this area, of about 513 hectares, was the hunting territory of the family Incisa della Rocchetta. In 1959 it was however transformed into a private animal oasis and later, in 1966, taken over by the world organization for the protection of wildlife. The environment of the oasis is an important example of how the Tuscan coast presented itself before the reclamation operations. Within the protected territory there are wet meadows, woods, ponds and crops. This type of natural environment is home to numerous species of water birds such as the crane, the wild goose, the heron, the marsh harrier and even the stork. In addition to these, wild boar, fallow deer, rabbits, roe deers, hares and squirrels can also be found inside the oasis.
The WWF Oasis of Bolgheri can be visited by appointment. The visit develops along a totally flat path that crosses all the natural environments.
Il Giardino Sospeso is an adventure park with 10 acrobatic trails suspended among the trees. Of varying difficulty and length, these tracks are very entertaining for both children and adults. The park is an ideal destination for spending a pleasant day with the family. Everyone is equipped with a helmet and protective rope, both young and old can experiment with their ability to balance and endurance. Also, for each route, an instructor is available to help you face obstacles.
