Pisa: Piazza dei Miracoli and other attractions

Pisa is one of the most beautiful art cities in Tuscany, it is located just a few kilometers from the Residence Rosa dei Venti. According to the legend it was founded by a group of refugees escaped from the ruin of Troy, in reality it is much more probable that it was originally a simple Etruscan settlement. Favored by the nearby presence of the sea, the city developed as a naval and commercial power throughout the Mediterranean. Thanks to the economic revenues of these trades, the administrators of Pisa managed to provide the city with marvelous public and religious buildings that can still be admired today. Among these is the monumental complex of Piazza dei Miracoli: the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Camposanto and the Leaning Tower. The latter has made Pisa famous all over the world.
It is actually the bell tower of the Duomo, a high circular tower characterized by numerous circles of marble columns. The white marble is in fact the main element of the whole complex, its brilliance, compared to the green lawn that surrounds the buildings, is absolute protagonist of the square. Because of its immense historical, artistic and cultural value, Piazza dei Miracoli is recognized as a World Heritage Site.
A visit to Pisa can not, however, focus only on the tower. You can also admire the magnificent lungarni, long avenues with views of the river where there are vintage buildings, churches and many museums.
Do not miss even Piazza dei Cavalieri, the ancient forum of the Roman city, home to the Scuola Normale and the historic Palazzo dei Cavalieri.
